Moulay Idriss and Volubilis
A little more than 65 km from Fez, the spiritual capital of Morocco, we found Meknes, in the Middle Atlas. You can get there by train from Fez Station, trains run every few minutes and the journey time is about 45 minutes, for about €4. You can approach the mosque or its great mosque, visit some of its mausoleums, the palace, stroll around the closed market or go to its souk (completely local with few tourists). Try a delicious camel burger, you will see a sign with camel face at one of the butchers, incidentally, exquisite, something spicy but very good and above all different. From there you can take a taxi (for not more than €20-25/half day including Moulay Idriss and Volubilis) and go to Volubilis - an ancient Roman city with one of the best preserved archaeological sites in North Africa and a UNESCO Heritage Site, the entrance is €3, it is best visited early as the sun can be hellish.
