16 reviews of Janiculum

Really romantic

This is one of Rome’s most beautiful public parks and it’s located on top of a hill. It’s especially romantic in the evening. It’s also the home of the iconic statue of Garibaldi. If you’re a picnic-fan, this is the ideal place to go and enjoy the views.

The Janiculum Hill

Mount Janiculum is one of 8 Roman hills from which you can see the city. The Gianicolo offers beautiful views of the city from the right bank of the Tiber River, with a maximum height of 82 meters. The Gianicolo is located near the neighborhood of Trastevere.

See the magic of the city

This park is one of the highest in Rome and you can reach it by crossing through Trastevere.

It was also the site of some of the most violent battles between the Romans and the French. On the highest part of the hill, there's an equestrian statue of Garibaldi that stands as a reminder of those times. The statue's huge dimensions are impressive at first sight and its position on top of the hill makes it seem like the giant horse is going to ride off into the wind at any moment. The Dell'Acqua Paola Fountain supposedly built by Pope Paul V is also in the park.

But what really stands out about this park is not the statues, but the incredible views of Rome. You can see the entire city at a glance and it's especially beautiful as night sets in and this magical city begins to light up. Rome has so many ruins, churches, artworks, and museums that it often seems overwhelming to visitors. This park offers a nice chance to disconnect while still enjoying a view of this enchanting city.
