Moreno Captain Statue

In the heart of Paseo Real is the statue of one of the heroes of Antequera. On a pedestal, covered in marble by his side and many plaques dedicated to his memory is a figure standing in bronze. Some details are reminiscent their tragic end, as black crowns adorning the base. Vicente Moreno was born in the year 1773 and distinguished himself for bravery in the War of Roussillon in the Fixed Regiment of Malaga. In the year 1809 he was promoted to Captain and sent to Sierra Morena, in the battle of Ocana. Arquillos The regiment was destroyed and he became a guerrilla who fought against the French invasion until he was captured and executed in the year 1810.
