Monument to the Women
The Monument to the Women is a sculpture in Republic Square, right at the beginning of the gardens that run along Central Avenue. The sculpture shows a naked woman lying on her side. It appears to be made of white marble, but it's chipped at the base where it clearly indicates that it was carved out of wood and then lacquered. It was made in 1996 by John Fisher, an American sculptor, although he spent most of his life in Italy, and his works follow the model of the famous artist Michelangelo.
