Monument to Columella

Se halla en el centro urbano de Cádiz, en la plaza de las Flores, posiblemente el rincón con más encanto de la ciudad. Se trata del homenaje a uno de los personajes más ilustres de la historia de Cádiz, Lucius Iunius Moderatus apodado Columella, autor de la primera obra escrita sobre agricultura. Recorrió todo el Imperio Romano llegando a ser tribuno en Israel y conociendo multitud de culturas diferentes. Fruto de su experiencia y de sus conocimientos redactó el primer tratado conocido sobre agricultura, ganadería y conservas. Murió en el sur de Italia sobre el año 60. La estatua se halla sobre una peana de mármol blanco, separada del tránsito peatonal por una pequeña fuente. Se le representa en actitud de enseñar, con los brazos abiertos, con la clásica indumentaria patricia.

It is in the center of Cadiz in the Plaza de las Flores, possibly the most charming city. This is the tribute to one of the most famous people of the history of Cadiz, Lucius Columella nicknamed Iunius Moderatus, author of the first written work on agriculture. He traveled throughout the Roman Empire becoming tribune in Israel and knowing many different cultures. The result of their experience and their knowledge wrote the first known treatise on agriculture, livestock and preserves. He died in southern Italy about the year 60. The statue is on a pedestal of white marble, separated from pedestrian traffic by a small fountain. He is represented in attitude of teaching, with open arms, with classic clothing patricia.

Siento simpatía por este monumento y admiración por Columela por ser una amiga gaditana bien conocedora de su Ciudad, la que me habló de él. Este monumento como tantos otros que encontramos en las ciudades que visitamos nos ayudan a adentrarnos en su historia y a entender mejor a sus gentes. I feel sympathy for this monument and admiration for being a friend Columela Cadiz well aware of their town that told me about it. This monument like so many others who are in the cities we visited help us delve into its history and its people better understand. At the end of the day that's traveling ...
