Monument to Afonso Henriques (1)

On the corner between Largo da Misericordia and Rainha Street, directly opposite the Church and House of Mercy and the building of the Court of Appeals of Guimarães is a monument dedicated to Afonso Henriques. It's a stone sculpture from 2001 by artist João Cutileiro representing the first king of Portugal (Alfonso I) carrying a sword (pillar) and a shield. There's another monument dedicated to him opposite the main door of the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança.
