Monument à la bataille de Tourcoing

Derrière le parc Clémenceau, nous avons découvert un monument assez original, non par sa forme (une simple obélisque, aux justes proportions) mais par ce qu'il commémore. En effet, sur l'une de ses faces est inscrit : "bataille de Tourcoing 18 mai 1794". Eh oui ! Ce n'est pas un monument qui vient rappeler l'une des deux guerres mondiales, mais c'en est un qui nous transporte plus de deux siècles en arrière, au temps de la révolution française. Pour la petite histoire, la bataille de Tourcoing opposa les Français aux Britanniques et se solda par la victoire des Français.

Clemenceau behind the park, we found a fairly original monument, not by its form (a simple obelisk, the right proportions) but it commemorates. Indeed, on one side is inscribed: "Battle of Tourcoing May 18, 1794." Yes! It is not a monument that reminds one of the two world wars, but it is one that takes us over two centuries ago at the time of the French revolution. For the record, the Battle of Tourcoing opposed the French and the British ended with the victory of the French.
