Monkeys that come and go freely

In Paradeniya Botanical Gardens there are a lot of monkeys that come and go freely. Most are there because there is a large selection of fruit trees, so it gives them an easy meal, since the fruit is not harvested to sell in the markets. Monkeys always seem cool to tourists but it seems the locals quite despise them. There are signs asking you not to give food to the monkeys because otherwise they get used to it and also the park would have more and more monkeys coming to find food. The monkeys are always in groups and be careful if you see a female with babies because they will do anything if they feel threatened.

Most of the time however, they are friendly. If you have something to eat, take care as they may try to steal it.
