Monastery of Santa Clara
The XIV century monastery is associated with the birth of the city but the current Baroque monastery is abandoned. However, you can visit the oldest area, the church and the Gothic cloister built in 1318 that are perfectly preserved after some restoration work. The church is a Latin cross design with a single nave and large transept, the highlight is the Founders Chapel, where the convent and city founders are buried (Prince Afonso Sanches and his wife Dona Teresa founded the monastery on their return from Santiago de Compostela).
