Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp

I have to make a special mention to the cloister of Sant Pau del Camp monastery, it really deserves one. One of the most beautiful I have seen lately. Simple, small but different. A cloister forming a squared patio, very tiny, of pairs of unique columns, the foliated arches of Moorish, oriental style, rarely seen in the area and which gives a special charm to the whole.

The capitals decorating the columns are an entire representation of different styles and concepts, from the Corinth style, of plant style, to lovely moving animal figures.

Walking in this quiet and simple Romanesque cloister is a delight.

It is much more than a simple church, it is a monastery, the one of Sant Pau del Camp. It is located a few minutes away from La Rambla del Raval, it is not the best neighborhood at night but during the day it has many hidden wonders like this monastery. Next to the monastery there is a small garden giving you a very good view on the exterior. The monastery is of Benedictan faith and it is one of the buildings of Romanic style that is best preserved in the entire city. Just for this it is worth the visit.
