San Pietro di Sorres Monastery
It has been several years since I last visited this monastery, but my experience is still firmly etched in my memory. It was a special visit because I had the opportunity and good fortune to spend 5 days in the monastery and completely soak up the atmosphere. In full Benedictine spirit, myself and 5 others were guests in the monastery, receiving food and board in exchange for small jobs like cleaning, serving meals, and maintaining the gardens. We did this respecting the rhythm and rules of monastic life, including perpetual silence. We stayed in a small guesthouse that was built for guests looking to experience life at the monastery or simply to have a few days of quiet reflection. My most vivid memories are those of the monastery at dawn: the soft morning light filtering through the narrow mullioned windows and the sweet chants of the monks during morning prayer. Having experienced it first person, I can stay that it was a truly unique experience that I'd recommend to anyone.
