As we wandered aimlessly through the city of Dublin, looking for a hot chocolate or something warm to drink, we met Molly Malone, the famous woman who sold fish to the tune of "cockles and mussels alive, alive-o!" There is a statue erected in honour of this fish seller who, despite there being no evidence that she actually existed, has become a part of the country's folklore. It is said that she sold fish by day, worked as a prostitute by night, and eventually died of a fever. It's funny to hear tourists remark on the statue's breasts! The statue is in front of Trinity College, at the bottom of Grafton Street, a shopping area with plenty of clothes shops, shoe stores, fast food outets, pubs, etc ...
But for us the best things in the area are the shopping center next to St Stephen's Green and a shop selling hot coffee, tea or hot chocolate (to take away) for 1 €! It is great for a little body heat as you walk around. At the mall you can get something to eat and go to the park to enjoy your lunch. You'll often see a guy next to the statue of Molly Malone writing on the pavement with coloured chalk, explaining how he came to be living in the street ... on the other side is a man dressed as a Leprechaun. Be careful as he might think you're taking a picture of him, and try to charge you...
