Block Island Drama
Stand at the top of the wooden staircase that leads down to the sand at Block Island’s Mohegan Bluffs and you’ll notice that everyone who approaches exclaims something like “Wow!” or “This is amazing!” And they’re right. The bluffs - named for the Mohegan Indians driven over the edge during a 17th century battle with the Niantic - are dramatic, rising roughly 200 feet above the wild beach below.
You can take in the view from the top, or make your way down the 140 steps and scramble across the rocks towards the surf. You’ll see people doing this in flip-flops while holding a cup of Del’s frozen lemonade, but to be safe, wear good shoes.
