Modern Barbican

In the late Middle Ages, with the advent of gunpowder, enemies began to use new guns, so the city had to prepare new defensive structures. The castle and wall that surrounded the city from the thirteenth century were thus reinforced in the sixteenth century. The entrances to the city were narrowed and new ones were built like a tilted pocket to enable the shooting of invaders. This work of military engineering is called the Modern Barbican and is a Property of Public Interest.
