Michelangelo Pietà Rondanini

La Piedad Rondanini se encuentra en el museo del Castillo Sforzesco de Milán y se considera que es la ultima escultura que realizo Miguel ángel. Se la dejó inacabada, a su fiel servidor Antonio del Franzese en 1561. Se mantuvo durante siglos en el patio del Palazzo Rondanini, de ahí su nombre y en 1952 fue adquirida por el Ayuntamiento de Milán que la expone desde aquel día en el Castillo Sforzesco. Si comparamos la Piedad que se encuentra en la Basílica de San Pedro con esta, pocos dirían que ambas son de Miguel ángel. La crisis espiritual y artística en la que cayó el escultor le llevo a tocar el tema de la Piedad en tres ocasiones en los últimos años de su vida. Las imágenes en esta escultura son alargadas y tanto Cristo como la Virgen se encuentran completamente unidos como en un solo cuerpo. Es la más trágica y misteriosa de sus esculturas.
