Channeled my inner Rick Stein and visited the market on a Thursday afternoon.

Excellent

Spacious, airy and modern, the highlight was the bar where you could sit and have your wares cooked how you like. The range of produce on display was impressive, especially the lower level which housed the fish stalls.

El mercado central de Almería fue el primer mercado de abastos de la ciudad, y durante muchos años, también el de mayor tamaño. Situado en un edificio carismático de finales del siglo XIX en el centro de la ciudad, es obra del arquitecto Antonio Martínez Pérez, Además está considerado como uno de los mejores ejemplos de la "arquitectura del hierro" de la época. Por dentro el edificio es muy moderno.Cuenta con dos plantas. En la primera, encontramos distintos puestos de frutas y verduras, así como de embutidos, y encurtidos. En la planta baja, a la que se accede por medio de unas escaleras mecánicas instaladas en mitad del recinto se encuentran los puestos de pescado.
