Ignacio Izquierdo
A wonderful example of Menorcan architecture
Widely known for its hospitality, this small town at the food of Monte Toro is worth a visit, especially the historic center with its white houses and small, charming streets. Although it’s situated in the center of Menorca and is a historic crossroads, the town is relatively quiet nowadays.
The name is derived from the fact that it was one of the few interior towns with a marketplace, a luxury usually reserved for towns on the coast like Mahón and Ciudadela. Thanks to this tradition, Es Mercadal is a great place to try traditional cuisine and find local handicrafts.
