Sixteenth century mansion
Construction of the sixteenth century by the Menzies Clan, specifically for the eleventh Baron Menzies, Sir Robert Menzies. At first the mansion was conceived both as a fortress with the intent of providing protection against possible enemy attacks. In 1577 due to the loss of potential attacks, reconstruction started mainly in the upper to make it more useful and give it the appearance of a mansion as can be seen today. The visit was free but during our visit there was a wedding and therefore would be closed for a few days.
