Melchiore Gioia

Piacenza goza de uma certa excelência na educação. Pelo menos até a “media superiore”, que, no sistema italiano de educação é o último passo antes da universidade. Para os cursos de nível superior existem uma universidade e uma faculdade. Esta última é uma seção do Instituto Politécnico de Milão. Mas os cursos de “scuola elementare” scuola media” e “media superiore” são decididamente de boa qualidade. Entre essas a que mais chama a atenção é o “Liceo Ginnasio Statale Melchiorre Gioia”, com alunos de toda a província piacentina e das províncias vizinhas, enfrentando viagens de trem e dificuldades em períodos de neve. Qualquer sacrifício para estudar no “Gioia” vale à pena. O curso privilegiado é o liceu clássico. O Liceo Gioia nasceu como “Régio Liceo” do pré-existente “Collegio Piacentino”, instituto criado pelos Jesuítas em fins de 1500 nas proximidades da igreja de São Pedro. Apesar de ter sido o centro de disputas políticas, a “Scuola di San Pietro” manteve a sua vitalidade até 1860, quando um decreto do então governador da “Regia Provincia dell’Emilia” e a aplicação da lei Casati transforma o instituto em liceu público e a coloca no mesmo nível dos demais liceus do estado. Em 1874 a prefeitura compra o prédio do conde Anguissola na via S. António (hoje Via Taverna) para atender a demanda crescente de alunos. Em 1932 inicia-se a construção da atual sede, na via Rissorgimento. Em 1945 o prédio vem ocupado pelos alemães e o liceu se transfere provisoriamente ao “Collegio Sant’Agostino” (já demolido) no Stradone Farnese, para retomar suas instalações com o fim da guerra. Em 1997 o Gioia foi escolhido com outro 17 institutos em todo o território nacional para iniciar uma reforma com novos cursos experimentais, passando a oferecer quatro endereços liceais: Liceu clássico, científico, linguístico e internacional. Neste ano o Gioia completa 150 anos, considerando apenas o período em que o instituto funciona como escola pública. Muitos piacentinos famosos se orgulham de terem estudado no Gioia e muitos dos alunos de hoje com certeza estarão entre os novos líderes locais e, quem sabe, entre os futuros líderes nacionais.

This year the Gioia turns 150, considering only the period in which the institute functions as public school. Many famous piacentinos are proud to have studied in Gioia and many of today's students will surely be among the new local leaders and perhaps among future national leaders.
