A bridge with history
The river Gartempe crosses the town of Montmorillon, separating it into two differrent sections: on one side is the old and charming district of Brouard, which is dominated by the impressive silhouette of the church of Notre Dame, while on the opposite side you can find the new town. In order to access the medieval village you have to cross the "Old Bridge", which is an architectural marvel dating back to the 11th Century and because of the numerous religious conflicts that plagued the region for centuries it had to be rebuilt several times. In fact, of the original plant only the central arch and the stems are left intact.
