Une bibliothèque à vocation régionale
La Bibliothèque Francophone Multimédia de Limoges, qui a ouvert ces portes en 1998, est remarquable à différents points de vue. Tout d'abord au niveau architectural : il s'agit dun bâtiment de 15000 m², tout en granit et en verre réalisé par l'architecte Pierre Riboulet. Il est intéressant de noter que cette médiathèque enferme une mosaïque gallo-romaine dans son atrium, qu'il est possible d'admirer, car habilement mise en valeur.
La médiathèque est également un pôle associé à la Bibliothèque Nationale de France dans le domaine du théâtre et de la poésie francophone. C'est un lieu où il est possible de consulter presque 500 000 documents et où l'inscription et le prêt sont gratuits, ce qui est extrêmement rare dans des villes de plus de 100 000 habitants.
Des expositions y sont organisées très régulièrement.
Bref, la médiathèque est une très belle réalisation qui offre un accès privilégié à la culture à tous ceux qui passent ses portes.
