Located in the heart of Graslei in Groentenmarkt, the building of the Butchers' Hall (Groot Vleeshuis) has become a market - restaurant - snack bar where you can buy culinary delicacies. You'll notice upon entering the ham that is hung from the ceiling. And is that one of the most famous specialties of Ghent is Ganda ham (a kind of ham to the Flemish), which is eaten by soaking it in hot mustard. Other specialties are gantesas marzipan cake ("mattetaarten") and "advocat", a thick egg liqueur. The building dates back to the fifteenth century and was designed by Gilles De Suttere. It is built in
Stone and inside it is remarkable with a mural painting "The Birth of Christ" by Nabur Martins in 1448 to decorate the vaulted ceiling of an ancient chapel.
