maxence vandermeersch Statue

Devant l'église Saint-Nicolas, à Wasquehal, il y a un petit square sympathique dont je me permets de vous présenter une sculpture, particulièrement étrange. Elle représente la tête de Maxence Van der Meersch, un écrivain nordiste du XXème siècle, né à Roubaix. Une plaque vissée sur le socle cherche à résumer par une citation de Vallarez ce grand écrivain : "ce qui fait la vraie valeur de l'homme, c'est son coeur". Mais ce qu'il y a d'insolite dans cette sculpture c'est le travail du bronze : il semble avoir été travaillé par à coup, esquissé et donne la sensation d'un visage âgé, ravagé par la maladie et le temps.

Front of the church Saint-Nicolas, Wasquehal, there is a nice little square which I would like to present a sculpture, particularly strange. It represents the head Maxence Van der Meersch a northerner writer of the twentieth century, was born in Roubaix. A plate screwed onto the base trying to summarize with a quote from Vallarez this great writer: "What is the true value of man is his heart." But there was unusual in this sculpture is the bronze work: it seems to have been worked by a sudden sketched and gives the feel of an older face, ravaged by disease and time.
