Treat yourself to a few days in Paradise
Matemwe is a small village beside a long white sand and palm fringed beach. There is a range of accommodation from luxury lodges to cheaper beach huts. The beach is the center of activity and human interaction, cyclists and scooters whizzing past, kids playing football, tourists strolling, touts offering tours, octopus hunters stalking the shallow waters at low tide, fishermen drifting past in dhows with billowing white sails and "Masai" warriors selling jewelry and handicrafts.
The Makuti pop-up beach restaurant offers seafood dishes and the perfect observation post for checking out the scene.
One Ocean offers snorkeling and diving tours of the coral reef surrounding tiny Mnemba Island. The large tidal range means the sites can be enjoyed by both divers and snorklers depending on the state of tide. Plenty of coral gardens with brightly colored fish flitting past, keep your eye out for the superbly camouflaged frog fish. Plus the pod of local dolphins seem to make a daily appearance. Treat yourself to a few days in Paradise.
