Market of Species of Salé
I like going to the market in Salé compared to other tourist cities, because it is not specifically geared towards tourists. You walk into a store, called the Hanut, which is like a convenience store, with all the spices out. Ask for a particular weight, or just ask for the amount in dirhams. They have ground ginger, which is used in the preparation of cakes and bean soup in "loubia", paprika, saffron and other spices. Saffron is much cheaper than in Spain but the harvest is labor intensive so it is still not cheap. It sells per gram, depending on the quality and it costs between 2 and 5 euros for a gram.
