Mango Tree Restaurant
The Coca family (do not think badly of the name), has dedicated over 20 years to restoration and has several locations scattered around Bangkok. I visited a friendly local restaurant that can be found in a Thai style house from the time of King Rama VI, in the heart of Silom Road. It has a large mango tree in the front yard, which the name of the restaurant originated from. The restaurant, decorated with wooden furniture and flowers, has a friendly atmosphere with an indoor area with air conditioning and an outdoor patio with fans which is very nice and where live Thai classical music is performed at night.
The menu offers a wide variety of traditional dishes from all of the regions in Thailand. For example: Po Tuon - seafood with chili paste and coconut milk, seasoned with herbs; Shrimp Pad Thai - large shrimps wrapped in a tortilla, served with crunchy vegetables; Pla Chon Wang Chao - fried fish with fresh coconut sauce, chili and tamarind, served with vegetables; Choo Chee Goong Nang - large freshwater shrimps sauteed in Choo Chee curry sauce. I ate Choo Chee Goong Nang. It was delightfully spicy!
