A very large mosque
Practically in front of the Charminar, Mecca Masjid is one of the largest mosques in the world. Construction began in 1614, and finished in 1687, during the Mughal era. The brick entrances used earth from Mecca, hence its name. Just outside the front door is a stand where they sell coverings for your eyes - highly recommended to combat the smog of the city. To enter the yard, you must remove your shoes, and women are given a black cloak to cover themselves. You must also cover your head. Unfortunately, women are not allowed in the main part of the mosque but you can walk on the right and be blessed by the guards with a bundle of peacock feathers.
