As the commercial and cultural center of medieval Saguntine life, this is where the weekly market was held. The church of Santa Maria is located here, and in the northwest corner stands the Almudín door, formerly used as a wheat depository to supply the population and sell grain to individuals. Currently, as in the Middle Ages, the plaza is closed during the holidays by barriers.

La Plaza Mayor est la place principale...

La Plaza Mayor est la place principale de la ville de Sagunt (et pas que de Madrid !). C'est une place avec des arcades romaines ( à voir absolument, elles sont très jolies ! ) et un petit jardin. De cette place, fait face le château de Sagunt,l'église gothique Santa María ainsi que le quartier juif. Cette place a longtemps été le centre culturel de la ville. C'est encore aujourd'hui le lieu de beaucoup d'échange et de rencontres. De celle-ci, vous pourrez également accéder rapidement à l'hôtel de ville avec sa sublime façade néoclassique.

The Plaza Mayor is the main square of the city of Sagunto (and not that of Madrid!). It is a place with Roman arches (a must see, they are very pretty!) And a small garden. From this square, facing the castle of Sagunto, the Gothic church of Santa María and the Jewish Quarter. This site has long been the cultural center of the city. This is still the place many exchanges and meetings. From it, you can also quickly get to the town hall with its sublime neoclassical facade.
