Trip to Mahón
I went to Mahón on the overnight ferry and entered the port area at dawn. From the deck, I got a chance to witness the grand spectacle of capes, inlets, points, and cliffs surrounding one of the Mediterranean’s largest natural bays.
Little by little, the light grew and you could make make out Fuerte de La Mola and the fishing town of Es Castell on either side of the bay. Once the ferry reached the Isleta del Rey, it slowed down and I could make out the shining white silhouette of Mahón.
Jutting out over the cliff and topped with pretty towers and cupolas, the small Menorcan capital seems like something out of a pleasant dream. Mahón is seductive, day or night, especially in the mornings when the small of freshly-baked pastries fills the streets.
