During the eighteenth century, Mahé de Labourdonnais was governor of the islands of France (Mauritius) and Bourbon (Reunion). It is to him that we owe the development of Saint Denis, who succeeded St. Paul as the main town on the island of Reunion. He deeply marked the history of the Indian Ocean, to the point that the main island of the Seychelles now bears his name. His victories in naval battles and development means he put out to the ships to unload in Saint Denis made his installation, standing, facing the sea, imposed itself naturally.
