Los Ingenios Valley

Los Ingenios Valley

Situated south of the province of Sancti Spiritus in central Cuba, near Trinidad, is a testimony to the development of the sugar industry. In this valley there are many ruins preserved of structures that had to do with the manufacture of sugar, such as the mills, barracks, barns, summer houses, etc. As far as we can see in this area, Iznaga Tower takes up a prime place, with its 45 meters spread over 7 floors, and a viewpoint where you can see the plantations.

A surprising valley next to Trinidad

Un valle sorprendente al lado de Trinidad

Excellent
The Valley of the Sugar Mills is a green valley where there were sugar plantations in the nineteenth century and which can now visit several buildings related to the sugar industry of the time. To go to the Valley of the Sugar Mills from Trinidad, take Highway 12 toward Sancti Spiritus. The first compulsory stop is to the left of the road, the Mirador de la Loma del Puerto, 192 meters above sea level, where you can see a panorama of the valley. With a little luck you divisaréis the steam train that runs still going to the next tour stop, the hacienda Iznaga Manaca. This hacienda owned by Pedro Iznaga, who in the late eighteenth century, was one of the most powerful men in Cuba by the slave trade he practiced. Together with his colonial house, where you can see a mill, you can climb the tower of 44 meters high. Another interesting places of the valley, following the route of the train, for about 3 km, is the Guachinango House, another estate, in this case owned by Don Mariano Borrell, dating more or less the same time as the first. Just before reaching Guachinango, you can see an iron bridge.

Nice walk but overly built for tourists

Nice walk but excessively built for tourists, admire a valley where once there was the largest production of sugar cane, knocked down to make it a tourist destination (so said by the guide)
