Upon entering the gates of the Clock Tower we find the Plaza de los Coches, the historic site of the African slave trade. Today, this place is the meeting point where you can take a horse-drawn cart for a ride through the historic city centre (highly recommended), hence its current name (Square of the Coaches), although it has worn other names during its history, like Judge Square and Slave Square. Taking a trip through the Old Town in a horse-drawn carriage is a way to "return" to the colonial Cartagena.
As you pass through the square, you can't help but consider all the horrors that it was once witness too.
