The Norwegian fjord region offers endless opportunities to enjoy nature. If you have some time to visit the area, it is best to dedicate time to places such as Sognefjord and Geiranger. But if you have more time and your own transport, I cannot recommend the mountainous region south of Alesund, known as the Alps of Sunnmøre, highly enough. For me, they are more spectacular than the better known region of Geiranger. These "alps" are distributed across the country's coast and border several fjiords in the region. Hiking opportunities in the area are plentiful and varied, with trails for all levels.
