Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick
Despite what its name might suggest, the Lord Leycester Hospital was never a hospital. It was a medieval centre of hospitality for troops and visitors to the city. In the Middle Ages that was the meaning of 'hospital'. Later the term would be used as we use it today. Founded in 1561 by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leycester, there's a reception hall, a chapel, gardens, sleeping quarters and kitchen, all in different buildings, adjacent to each other. All this is explained by an elderly employee, who is very friendly and keen to tell the story of this historic building. Definitely worth the visit. It
