Little Jesús of Cartolinha

Esta escultura es lo más curioso que ví en toda la ciudad de Miranda, ¡aluciné!. Se trata de una talla de madera policromada que se encuentra en una vitrina en el interior de la [poi=89636]Catedral[/poi], y es el elemento más característico y representativo de la ciudad a pesar de su tamaño (unos 40 cm de altura). El "Menino Jesús da Cartolinha", también llamado "Menino Jesús do Chapéu Alto" significa Niño Jesús del Sombrero de Copa, y éso es precisamente lo que representa la escultura, pero tiene la particularidad de que en la vitrina se expone con todo su ajuar: Varios trajes de distintos colores, calcetines, camisas... ¡Parecía un auténtico muñeco digno de cualquier estante de juguetería! Su existencia se debe a una leyenda: Se dice que este niño se apareció a las tropas portuguesas para infundirles ánimo cuando estaban perdiendo contra las españolas durante las guerras hispano-lusas, y que cuando al final les vencieron, tallaron en madera a ese niño, ataviándolo con un sombrero de copa, una bola en su mano izquierda y una insignia sobre el pecho. Desde luego, me pareció realmente curioso. No os lo perdáis, se encuentra en la capilla lateral que hay a la derecha del altar Mayor; yo casi me voy sin verlo porque al ser pequeño la vitrina donde se encuentra no destaca demasiado en el interior de un templo tan grande.

This sculpture is the most curious thing I saw in the entire city of Miranda, freaked!. Since then, I found it really funny. Do not miss it, is in the side chapel to the right of the main altar, I almost go without seeing it because being small showcase where it is not too out within such a large temple.
