Little Bird Gin - Maltby Street Market

1 review of Little Bird Gin - Maltby Street Market

Pop-up gin bar on Maltby Street

Little Bird Gin is an independent gin distillery based in South London which produces small-batch London Dry Gin with natural ingredients and no artificial flavorings or colorants. The gin is made with the usual selection of botanicals but pink grapefruit, orange peel, and ginger give the 80-proof gin a nice citrusy aroma. I’ve never visited the distillery (in fact, I’m not sure if that’s even possible) but I did stumble upon Little Bird’s pop-up bar one fine Sunday morning in the Maltby Street Food Market. If I remember correctly, they had a menu offering up classics like Gin and Tonics or Negronis, but given that it was 11 in the morning we opted to try their Bloody Mary made with their craft gin, piri-piri hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, tomato juice, pepper, and lime juice.

Honestly, I would probably rank it as the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. It came over ice in a mason jar with shaved horseradish on top but what made this Bloody Mary so unique was that it layered the spicy elements in a way that they all seemed to affect different parts of your palate, leading to this really complete sense of spiciness which never overwhelmed your taste buds. I could have had six of them, though I decided that probably wasn’t the best way to begin a day of sightseeing!

Anyways, if your in London on a sunny Sunday morning, I’d strongly suggest heading down to the Ropewalk/Maltby Street Market and grabbing a top-notch Bloody Mary at the Little Bird Gin bar.
