Kleine Alster Lake

The Little Lake Alster, not to be confused with the giant Alster's in the region, is next to City Hall and is a perfect place to spend the day if there´s good weather. Birds, ducks and swans come to enjoy the area in large flocks, and the walk around the edge of the lake is an inexpensive delight. There are also bars, restaurants, and terraces that offer food and drinks at very high prices. It is, however, the best atmosphere in town. The lake is a sort of mixing point for people from all over Germany so there is food available from all the regions. Like a smaller version of Venice, Hamburg is a treat for all of us frustrated sailors.

AuBenalster or Alster lake is one of the two large lakes found in the city center of Hamburg. These lakes are artificial and were created from the river Alster. At some hotels, like ours, you are entitled to use the shuttle that goes from one lake to another at no cost. It's worth the walk, and finally, there is nothing like a German beer in any of the bars that surround the lake.

Alster, also known as the inner Alster Lake, is another artificial lake located in the center of the city. This side of the lake is the busiest because it is the closest to the major city attractions. This area is navigable and has a small port where you can take a ride on one of the boats. In some hotels, like ours, with your room card you are entitled to use transportation that goes from one lake to another at no cost.
