Almudena
Oldest Architectural Work
Standing, of course, in the Plaza de Armas, Francisco Pizarro personally began construction of this cathedral on Monday, January 18, 1535. Originally called the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, it's bordered by fifteen different chapels, one of which now contains the remains of the conqueror himself. It was inaugurated with great pride on March 11, 1540. The Cathedral of Lima is the oldest architectural work still standing in the Peruvian capital of Lima.
