Lighthouse
The lighthouse of Vila Real de Santo António became operational in January 1923 after many years of discussion on the method of construction. It's located in a sandy area so there was some controversy at first. The circular tower was forty meters high and was made of reinforced concrete. The flashing light that was installed was produced by incandescent oil vapor and had a range of thirty-three miles. Even today, it uses a Fresnel lenticular optical device of the 3rd original order. In 1927 it was given electricity with generators, and in 1947 it was fully connected to the public electricity network.
