Book-lover's paradise
As you enter Libreria Abanco, it's like dying and going to book-lovers paradise. This is one of the most popular secondhand bookstores in Madrid and is run by one of the city's oldest families in the book business. They specialize in secondhand books ranging from one euro paperbacks to dusty leather-bound editions of classic Spanish and international authors (I spied an especially beautiful copy of Dostoevsky's complete works).
This place is naturally mostly in Spanish but it does have a solid selection of English-language books featuring a mix of romance/mystery paperbacks and inexpensive editions of famous authors like Orwell, Dostoevsky, Flaubert, Lawrence, and a range of classical Greek authors.
