1 review of Library Municipal Barcelos (Machados Two Casa da Maia)

Perfect XVI century building

The Municipal Library of Barcelos is in Plaza José Novais, opposite the Tower of Porta Nova, in a building known as "Casa dos Machados da Maia". It was built in the mid-sixteenth century in stone and is considered one of the most perfect civil buildings of this era in the city - the facade has the coats of arms of the family. It was acquired in 1990 by the City Council and after a 6-year renovation it became a library with a reading room, audio-visuals and an auditorium with capacity for 100 people. Its opening hours are: Monday-Friday 9:30-18:00.
