Mc Donalds and the Intercontinental
Freedom Square connects ancient and modern Porto. In the center of the square is the equestrian statue of King Pedro IV, a bronze monument 10 meters high made by the Belgian sculptor Antoine Calmels (1862-1866). The statue shows the monarch carrying the Constitutional Charter and showing it to the people. From Liberty Square the Avenue of the Allies begins, it's full of modernist buildings (early twentieth century), such as City Hall (Pacos do Concelho), in front of the Igreja da Trindade, and some banks. Some restaurants, such as McDonalds, maintain their peculiar modernist decoration. In nearby
Rua do Magalhaes Lemos is the Rivoli Teatro Municipal leading to the Praça Dom Joao I and one of the best hotels in the city, the Intercontinental - beautiful and in a great location.
