Le Moule

Una delle più antiche cittadine, ed anche ex-capitale, di Guadalupa, sita in una regione dell'isola da sempre dedita alla coltivazione della canna da zucchero. Le Moule si raccoglie attorno ad una grande piazza, dove sorgono una bella chiesa con facciata neoclassica e diversi caratteristici edifici creoli in legno colorato, e si svolge il mercato. Questa cittadina si sta aprendo al turismo, anche se non si trova nella parte dell'isola con le lunghe e candide spiagge di sabbia bianca, ma ha da offrire un buon retaggio di cultura e storia, siti caratteristici da visitare nelle vicinanze, legati alla coltivazione della canna da zucchero, e un bel lungomare, che nella parte più vicina al centro conserva in alcuni punti resti di antiche fortificazioni. Inevitabile notare in questa piccola città, passeggiando per le sue vie, il contrasto evidente tra i segni della modernità come per esempio tutta una serie di auto anche di grossa cilindrata, e molte antiche case creole mezze diroccate ma evidentemente ancora abitate, dove il tempo invece sembra essersi fermato ad almeno un secolo fa.
