Tiki bar, cultural center, and night spot
Le Comptoir General is one of the most unique and interesting places in Paris, as well as one of my personal favorites. Hidden in a non-descript alleyway behind a row of homes in the 5th Arrondissement, Le Comptoir general is part tiki bar, part dance club, part art gallery, and part DIY cultural center, all merged together amid an eclectic mix of people, decor, and awesome music.
When you first enter, you pass through a long, dark hallway decorated with vintage chandeliers, colorful wall paper, and even real leopard skins, and then pass into a series of cavernous spaces in what appears to be a recycled mechanic’s garage. As you go exploring the space, you’ll find corners decorated with tons of African souvenirs and knick-knacks, a vintage clothes store, an expensive but tasty tiki bar, corners filled with comfy sofas and vintage televisions showing strange old movies, classic arcade games, and a hidden garden if you’re looking for a moment’s break.
