Largo do Toural

This beautiful plaza is an extension of S. Alameda Damaso and is at the boundary of the historic and the modern city, so it's now regarded as the heart of the city, although once it was extramural. It's a rectangular square with a central fountain that commemorates the founding of the city, surrounded by neat gardens of colorful flowerbeds and small hedges in geometric patterns. Facing this plaza is the eighteenth century Church of San Pedro and there are also fragments of walls.
