Desembarco de Villajoyosa

In the coastal village of Villajoyosa, the sea is the backdrop for the festivities celebrating the Moorish invasions which took place along the Mediterranean in the 16th century. For that reason, the Moorish Landing on the beach shore is the festival's central act, that which gives it such a unique and singular character, and the reasons it was named a festival of National Touristic Interest. This fiesta is over 250 years old and the whole town is filled with processions and parades. On the morning of July 28th, the ocean is the star as the "Moorish army" lands on the beach while the Christian army defends the shoreline with artillery.
