Landeira Monte da Velha

El Monte saw more battles than anywhere in the Azores Islands! There was a bloody battle at the Mount of Landeira da Velha, where the troops of Don Pedro IV fought. He was an absolutist who defeated the army of the king who was actually his brother Don Miguel. In commemoration of this battle in August 2004 they put a plaque to the east of Ribeira Grande to consolidate the victory of the liberal army in the Azores archipelago. This milestone paved the way for the Civil War on the Mount of Évora and resulted in the creation of the Constitution of Portugal. In addition to beautiful views, Mount Landeira
