Many of the inhabited areas in the Canadian Rockies are there due to the presence of the railway. Even today long freight trains carrying grain, timber and machinery roll through the mountain passes day and night.
Lake Louise station was constructed to give tourists access to the world renowned lake. It is one of the few remaining stations made entirely out of wood. Today the lake is still a tourist hot-spot however they no longer use the train preferring the RV (some immense in size).
The station has now been converted into a restaurant, yet the internal dining areas still maintain the feel of turn of the century railway waiting rooms and ticket offices.
