Lake Biwa

Lake Biwa is the largest lake in Japan. The area: 670 km ². Parts have a depth of 103 meters. It is located in the Kinki region in Shiga prefecture, very close to Kyoto. In fact, from the Kyoto JR station you can reach one end of the lake in about 20 mins if we take the Biwa line down to Otsu, the capital of the prefecture. This lake has given the Japanese drink for generations and is currently the source of virtually all of its drinking water in Kansai (over 15 million people). This has meant that, for centuries, the nature of this lake has been surrounded by myths. Formerly it was known as Lake Omi.
