Plenty of nice attractions

No sooner had we left Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, heading west, than we found this huge lake. It is normally called Loch Peallach, but in reality is composed of two smaller lakes, Loch Canain Amais and Loch Meadhorn. They are famous for fishing and hunting (permits are required), as well as offering beautiful views.

The lake area was one of the first to be inhabited, due not only to the fresh water and bountiful fish but also to the fact that it offered some shelter from the coast, and a bit of protection from the Viking raids. In fact, farming implements from the Iron Age have been found on the shores of the lakes! There are several hiking trails in the area, including the rise to Crater Loch, a crater that is now a lake.
